Mare Aurelian - violin maker

Born and raised in Reghin, Romania in 1981, from an early age I started carving wood, inspired by my father, Mare Vasile, who built violins.
In 1996 I graduated from the violin music school and in 2000 I graduated from the Professional School in sculpture.

I started working in my fathers workshop, Mare Vasile, where I perfected myself in making master instruments and I continue to do so today.
Also, I attended in various international competitions and exhibitions where I received appreciations and very good results.

Competitions and diplomas

Throughout my career I have participated in various international lutherie competitions to confirm my level of mastery in making musical instruments and to motivate myself to become better.

I participated in Cremona, Italy at the Trienalle in 2006, 2012 and 2015
In Germany at Mittenwald in the year 2005 and 2022
In Romania, in Reghin, in 2009, 2012 and 2014
In Hungary at Veszprém in 2012

The most important were the 1st place in the viola section at Reghin 2012 and the 8th place in the cello section at Mittenwald, 2022.

In my luthier workshop, I enjoy an impressive collection of special tools to create special musical instruments. I use various types of saws, planes and drills to cut, place and shape the precious wood. They also use various types of brushes and varnishes to give musical instruments a perfect finish.
